HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA filters are very sophisticated air filters and were first created during the development of the Atomic Bomb, as a method of capturing very small radioactive particles. HEPA filters are designed to trap 99.97% of all particles as small as .3 microns.
However, some of the particles that are most dangerous to our health, such as small smoke particles and viruses can actually be smaller than the HEPA standard.
AirDoctor uses UltraHEPA™ Filters, which have been independently tested to remove up to 100% of particles at 0.003 microns in size--that’s 100 times smaller than the HEPA standard. AirDoctor is able to capture even the smallest particles--those that can penetrate the deepest into the lungs and pose the greatest risk to human health.
